Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' by Martin McDonagh tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain, lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag, her manipulative ageing mother, whose interference in Maureen’s first and possibly final chance of a loving
relationship sets in motion a train of events that leads inexorably towards the play’s terrifying dénouement.
This great play will be the Lindley Players' May production. A small cast of four is required; Maureen, a spinster in her forties; her manipulative mother Mags, 70; Ray Dooley, late teens/twenty and his brother Pato, forties/fifties.
If you haven’t guessed already the play is set in Ireland.
It is set in County Galway and like McDonagh’s other plays; A Skull in Connemara, The Lonesome West, The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lieutenant of Inishmore and The Pillowman, is a dark, dark comedy.
McDonagh also wrote the film In Bruges and his current play Hangmen has recently transferred from The Royal Court into the West End with rave reviews.
We will be holding an initial meeting/read through on Wednesday 3rd February 2016, with the audition on Monday 15th February 2016.
