FRIGHT NIGHTS: CAMBRIDGESHIRE
STRANGERS HALL GHOST HUNT
Sat 1st - 2nd December 2018 (20:00 - 02:00)
STRANGERS’ HALL, ONE OF NORWICH’S MOST HISTORIC AND TRULY MAGNIFICENT TUDOR BUILDINGS, WHICH HAS RARELY BEEN INVESTIGATED – NEW FOR 2018!
Fright Nights Cambridgeshire will be heading to Norwich for
our first ghost hunt at Strangers’ Hall, taking place on Friday 16th March 2018. There has been a building on the site since the 13th century, or possibly even earlier. Since the 14th Century, the house has been home to many important members of society, such as wealthy merchants and civic leaders, solicitors, and at one point a dance master. Perhaps one of the most influential owners was a gentleman named Thomas Sotherton who was a Grocer and Mayor of Norwich. He was actually responsible for the house being known as Strangers’ Hall…
Under The reign of Elizabeth I, England was a protestant country, and so welcomed refugees who fled the low countries to escape persecution for religious reasons! It was Thomas who encouraged asylum seekers to settle in Norwich and lodge at Strangers’ Hall, because he believed their skills in textile weaving made the immigrants economically invaluable, and would help to boost ant revive the textiles industry. The refugees were known as the ‘Strangers’, giving the house the name Strangers’ Hall as it’s known today.
The house is now a building of domestic history, with each room dressed to showcase the house as it may have looked during the different eras the building has been in use. With such a rich history and hundreds of years of use, is it any wonder that Strangers’ Hall is haunted?!
