Keep your spirits up this winter with a run, jog or walk around glorious Knole Park, enjoying the challenge of finding checkpoints using a especially prepared map.
Knole Park is 1,000 acres of glorious Kent countryside populated by large and curious deer herds.
Orienteering is a great way to improve
your fitness and explore the Kent countryside. You can run, walk or jog at the speed you want. Run as a group or an individual. You don't have to be a member of an orienteering club. You can enter on the day, and we may also have online entry, to be confirmed.
The Saxons event on Sunday 4th Feb will have several courses suitable for different experience and fitness levels, from family group and those with no experience, to experienced orienteers looking for a tough physical and mental challenge.
Knole Park/Sevenoaks is also a great day out. Why not stay around afterwards and visit the house? Or Sevenoaks Leisure Centre?
We anticipate the following courses:
Yellow - About 2km, Technically very easy mostly on large paths. Good for younger juniors and families.
Orange - About 3km, just off main paths, still quite easy. Good for adult beginners and progressing juniors.
Score - no set distance, find as many controls (checkpoints) as possible in 1 hour. Good for adult beginners, progressing juniors and anyone who wants to know how long they'll be out for.
Light Green - about 4km. For more experienced orienteers.
Blue - about 6km. Technically and physically challenging.
Brown - over 8km. A really tough course.
If you're a new or inexperienced orienteer - this is a really good area for you as the beginners courses will stay in the mostly open bits, with plenty of clear features such as large paths, roads and Knole Park house to help you find your way.
If you're an experienced orienteer, the courses will take you into the more challenging forested southern section, with some steep sided valleys to give you some interesting route choice.
Parking almost certainly at Suffolk Way Car Park next to the leisure centre. TN13 1LW – follow signs for Sevenoaks Leisure Centre. No parking fee on Sundays. Nearest railway station: Sevenoaks 1.2km
It really helps us to know how many people are going to estimate how many maps to print, so if you're 70%+ sure you're going, please do select 'going' on this Facebook event.
We are a non-profit making, volunteer based sports club, therefore we can deliver a high quality event at a low cost. Entry fees to be announced, but likely to be £10 on most courses, and cheaper for the yellow and orange (possibly £3). You can enter on the day. Online pre-entry may be available later.
