The FootStep Run, sponsored by FBM Estate Agents, is Saundersfoot doing what it does best. A mass participation event organised by the community for the community. Everyone from the butcher, the baker the real ale pullers to the frothy coffee makers and all those between and beyond, young and old, fit
and not so fit will be donning their sneakers and abandoning their sofas to flood the village in the feel good factor.
No one needs to feel left out because there will be achievable distances for all, you certainly won’t need to be Mo Farah to take part. The children’s race will get the festivities going at 6.30pm. Youngsters can run the ½ mile course clear of traffic, as the road from The Hean Castle Pub junction through The Strand will be closed for the whole event.
Then at 7pm, for the 14yrs and overs the choice is yours; a leisurely 1 mile, a more challenging 3 miles or for the really adventurous fun runner a 5-mile jaunt.
The course will take in The Strand, Coppet Hall, the tunnels along to Wiseman’s Bridge and the path to and through The Heritage Park at Pleasant Valley. Big thanks to the management there who have very kindly offered to marshall that stage of the course which has ensured that the whole 5-miles will be traffic-free.
Saundersfoot will be harnessing the London Marathon spirit with a plethora of musical entertainment at various points along the course. The roof of the Hean Castle Pub will be reminiscent of a New York Roof Top as local band ‘Westbound’, Saundersfoot’s answer to U2, sets the event alight. Bring your own cowbells & hooters! And not forgetting the completely optional fancy dress - No village festivity is complete without it. Deep-sea divers & gorillas will be welcomed with open arms and cheers a plenty. Prizes will be on offer for the best attired individuals and teams.
And whether you walk, run, sprint or support everyone’s a winner because all monies raised will be used to support 3 local charities - Paul Sartori, Pembrokeshire’s only hospice at home service; Wales Air Ambulance and The Dai Rees Foundation – founded in memory of Saundersfoot’s Dai Rees – to provide pre-hospital emergency care training to communities around the world.
It won’t break the bank to take part either; Kids run - £5, Adults run - £10. No one will head home empty-handed because all runners will get a limited edition Footstep run medal as well as the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped bring the village alive for the inaugural Footstep Run.
To register, please go along to www.footsteprun.co.uk - but don’t hang about - as 35 village businesses have already signed up representatives for the event.
