HEADLINERS /

The term 'legend' is often banded around willy nilly in the dance music realm, but Colin McBean, aka Mr. G, is one of the few who can rightfully lay claim to this accolade. Having been in the game for over 2 decades now, Mr. G is widely considered to be one of the most under-rated artists about - with only true music fans appreciating his vast contribution to dance music. He was initially part of the KCC DJ trio playing at the now legendary Confusion parties and subsequently started recording as one half of The Advent, producing many ground-breaking releases/remixes and albums, and touring the world with their intense, relentless style of techno. In 1999 Colin decided to go his own way and founded the Phoenix G label in order to create his unique brand of analogue bass-heavy electronic tech-funk, which immediately attracted props from his peers and the music press alike. Having achieved great acclaim for releases on other labels such as Defected, Duty Free, The End and Skint/Loaded, and remixing a wide range of artists - overground from chart-topping Roger Sanchez to Ms Kittin, and underground from Xpress II to Josh Wink and Ben Sims - he also received much attention for his releases/remixes out of Detroit on Moods ‘n’ Grooves. In 2006, Rekids was proud to bring Mr. G onto the team. In the subsequent 3 years, he released 'E.C.G.'ed', 'U Askin'?' and 'Makes No Sense' - featuring remixes from Radio Slave and Marcel Dettmann. He also remixed Kenny Hawkes & David Parr's single 'Gemini' for us in 2007. Last year saw the release of his long-awaited debut LP 'Still Here (Get On Down)', much to the delight of fans and peers alike. The album received unanimous praise across the globe, Resident Advisor and Mixmag both giving it a solid 4/5. Following the album's release, Colin took it on the road with the Rekids world tour - his sets went down a treat, tantalising crowds with his trademark blend of analogue driven grooves and luscious, soulful soundscapes. Colin's live sets have become legendary, alongside his string of fresh material and successful remixes over the years.

Shed is a man of action, a living example how to reinvent oneself again and again within the boundaries of electronic music. At the same time, Shed does not follow shallow trends. The Berlin-based producer firmly believes in the power of techno music. When techno was invented, Shed was not present. Born in 1975 in Frankfurt/Oder in the former GDR, he was simply too young. And also too far away from where techno was happening. As it turns out, being afar from epicentres like Berlin or Frankfurt/Main, was a blessing. Listening to the radio, Shed could absorb all kinds of music, styles and genres without being aware of the music's point of origin, the fighting and the bitching between various cities, crews and labels. Music is music. The sample-based sound of UK-hardcore, a quick liaison with Gabba and the back catalogue of Djax Up introduced techno to him in it's purest form possible. Then he finally discovered Chicago and Detroit. Deep inside the ever-fascinating triangle of beats, breaks and samples, he today identifies 1995/96 as the most important time in techno for him. Passion, surprise and the never-ending strive to push both the human being and the machines to the limit. Shed melts and merges rough and demanding dance floor skeletons with shockingly detailed melodies, harmonic structures, irresistible hooks and airy arrangements. A formula you also expose yourself to when attending one of his DJ or live gigs. A never-ending climax of the groove. Like it was in the founding days of the music, which today is a part of our culture. In 2008, Shed released his debut album. "Shedding The Past" is a monolith up to this very day, an unique musical statement. For him, the release of the album also flipped a new switch. Straight after the record hit the shelves, he started two new labels. On "Wax" and "Equalized" he has been releasing critically acclaimed dancefloor anthems ever since. An important step to clear the table. Having wiped the slate clean, he could then focus on "The Traveller", on which he presents his most radical tracks ever. Up until now, anyway.

Prins Thomas is responsible for a swag of the eclectic ‘space-disco’ sounds emanating from his homeland, Norway. Thomas is producer DJ and remixer, for himself with his own releases, Way back in time, he started playing around as a DJ at a puerile age. Viewing it as an extension of his break-dancing efforts, Thomas began mixing hip hop, electro and the likes of Arthur Baker and Shep Pettibone. He then took up the bass and played in more bands than Norway has trees. He joined forces with Hans-Peter Lindstrøm in 2003. They both have backgrounds in different Norwegian band projects, ranging from punk to gospel to heavy metal to folk and psychedelia, but they also shared a passion for collecting records and run their own labels Feedelity, Full Pupp and Internasjonal. Prins Thomas released his latest studio album alongside a new label, Prins Thomas Musikk, on November 24 2017. He was inspired by Plaid, Teenage Fanclub, a bout of bronchitis, American jazz guitarist Pet Metheny and homesickness on the road. It was written after 2016’s epic ambient album Principe Del Norte and at the same time as his collaborative album with Bjørn Torske, Square One.
