It gives me great pleasure to extend to you a very warm invitation to this year’s annual Edinburgh University Law Society Ball.
As ever, you will be welcomed in style to the Balmoral Hotel by a red carpet entrance and drinks reception. You will enjoy a three-course meal brought to you by some of the
country’s finest chefs, before dancing the night away at our annual ceilidh and dinner dance.
In true Law Society style, expect the unexpected and plenty of treats for you to enjoy throughout the night, including first class entertainment, exciting after dinner extras and of course, our exclusive after-party, where you can dance into the wee small hours of the morning and celebrate another fantastic year of Edinburgh Law School drawing to an end before the fear of those dreaded final exams truly sets in.

* IMPORTANT TICKET INFORMATION – PLEASE READ *
Full Dinner - £60/65 Members/Non-Members
After Dinner - £25/£30 Members/Non-Members
Tickets this year will be distributed by ballot, with the number of tickets being distributed in proportion to the number of students in each year. There will be five ballots - 1st to 4th year boxes, and a box for diploma/LL.M/ PhD.
Those who wish to attend the ball must write their name, student number and personal tutor on a prescribed form with up to one more person (i.e. you can enter the ballot yourself or with ONE other person but each person may only enter their name ONCE) and place it in the box that corresponds with the year they are in. Any attempt to enter the ballot twice will result in immediate withdrawal of a successful ticket.
Tickets will then be drawn in public from the respective ballot boxes to determine the distribution of tickets. First, the full dinner tickets will be allocated and then anyone unsuccessful will automatically be entered into the ballot for after dinner tickets.
If, having been successful in the ballot, you do not wish to attend the ball, you will have TWO days to intimate your intention to committee. In this case, the first people to be offered after dinner tickets will be offered full tickets until all dinner places have been filled. Ballots to re-fill the after dinner places will then be drawn from the remaining ballots.
The ballot boxes will be open from
Wednesday 31st January DHT 1.01 from 1pm-2pm
Thursday 1st February DHT 1.01 from 1pm-2pm
Friday 2nd February DHT 3.01 from 1pm-2pm
**ROOMS TO BE CONFIRMED**
The ballot will be PUBLICLY drawn on Wednesday 7th February 1pm-2pm
**ROOM TO BE CONFIRMED**
Places are non-transferable, and ONLY CURRENT STUDENTS WITHIN THE SCHOOL OF LAW will be eligible to attend the ball. After party tickets will not be balloted and will go on sale subject to availability closer to the date of the ball and will be open to anyone from outside the School of Law too.
Lists of those who are successful in the ballot will be posted online for those unable to attend the public ballot.
Winners of a guaranteed ticket from earlier in the academic year will automatically be entitled to a full dinner ticket. If they wish to waive this, they must intimate it to the committee.
