£65 per person. Tuition, materials, clay and firing of 6 of your best pots included.
Welcome to our full day beginners throwing course. The morning will start with learning how to prepare your clay for the wheel. We will do demonstrations on centering the clay, opening the pot, pulling the walls up,
finishing the rim and then taking the pot off the wheel head or batt. Then you will have until lunchtime to practise these techniques. We will break around 1pm for a half hour lunch and Depending on what level you get to, in the afternoon we will show you how to throw a bowl or you can keep practising with cylinders. We will get some of your pots partially dried to leather hard stage and we will show you how to trim a basic foot ring and tidy your pots up.
Cylinders and bowls are the two basic shapes that are thrown on the wheel and once you learn how to do these, you can make numerous different pots.
If you can already confidently throw a cylinder and want to continue to do more advanced techniques such as lidded objects, collaring in to make bottle shapes/vases or throwing and altering forms then we will be running various courses over Summer/Autumn to teach that too.
Between us we will choose your 6 best pots and fire then glaze them in a glaze of your choice ready to pick up from the workshop around 4 weeks later.
