Backbends are energising, open hearted postures that help us overcome obstacles, accept new challenges and move fearlessly into the future. When the physical body and energetic centres allow the front of the body and our heart to open, they can help us to release fear and hurt which we tend to store
within the spiritual and physical heart and the front of the hips... This session will work through the parts of the body that we need to strengthen or release for safe backbends, and we will have time to experiment with some backbending transitions, some of the deeper backbend poses and possibly backbending inversions such as scorpion and chinstand, It is recommended that participants already feel comfortable in Urdhva Dhanurasa (wheel pose) although modifications can be offered if required. As the shortest day approaches, this is an opportunity to release any negative tensions we are holding ready to move forward into the New Year.
