As most people know, in 2015 a vote was made by the powers that be in favour of slashing Teaching Assistants pay in the County by up to 23% - leaving us devastated and with an uncertain future in jobs that we love and have dedicated our working lives to.
The plan was to dismiss all 2700 of the County's
TAs, HLTA s and Support Assistants and re engage them of much poorer terms and conditions.
But we fought
And we keep fighting.
We've pushed back 3 'final' offers.
We've taken our fight nationwide
We will continue to fight until we win
It's not about holidays, it's not about wanting more money, it's about fairness. its about doing the right thing.
Last year in 2016 I contacted the Durham Miners Association and the late and great Davy Hopper.
He told us, ' why aye join in, just feed in with a band!'
We did...all 700 of us!!
I can honestly say it was one of the proudest moments of my life.
2017, The plan is again to walk together, dignified, unified, as one. No longer are we faceless, nameless - just numbers on a payroll .
Also, we walk in thanks to Davy who is sadly no longer with us.
More details etc to follow...but thanks to all for their support. I can speak only for me when I say I feel proud to represent our profession - we deserve to be seen AND heard, together as one.
See you in the market place xx
